Issue 19 2014-2015

Dear Parent/ Carer,
The snow seems to have returned so please ensure that your child is wrapped up appropriately each day.
This week I have completed my routine formal classroom observations and I am delighted with the quality of teaching and learning across school. Our outstanding provision goes from strength to strength.
Talking of outstanding, Miss Lambert has attended a conference this week on “Outstanding Ofsted inspections” to ensure that Robin Hood is doing everything we can to evidence our very many strengths.
KS2 have enjoyed a visit from St John’s Ambulance this week who have shown some really useful basic strategies for dealing with medical emergencies.
Finally, well done to KS1 for another super assembly this afternoon.
Have a great weekend!

Dear Parent/ Carer,
Thank you to everyone for getting children safely and on time into school during our snowy days.
We have made two further appointments for teaching assistants in the Foundation Stage. We welcome Miss Habberjam, who will support in Nursery and bring further expertise of working with children with Special Educational Needs. We also welcome Mrs Lunn, who will join us supporting our spirited children in Reception. Welcome, ladies!
As you read this, for the third year running, our Choir will be having a marvellous time singing their hearts out at the Young Voices event at Sheffield Arena. It really is a brilliant event which gives the children an opportunity to sing to a huge audience. Thanks to Miss McSorley for leading the event and all staff involved.
Finally, a huge Congrats to Miss McSorley, who  is expecting her first child in July. Lovely news!

Have a great weekend!

Dear Parent/Carer,

Happy New Year! I hope your Christmas break was enjoyable. I for one, am refreshed, energised and ready for the new term.

I hope you like our new look, streamlined newsletter. At the end of each term, you will receive a glossy “round up” of key school events in booklet form. We will continue to keep you well informed via the school calendar section of the website also.

This week we have moved into our new staffroom, which looks fantastic. The children are very impressed with the new addition to the school and are also benefitting from the new “Learning Zone”.

We welcome Rachel Hobson this week, our newly appointed teaching assistant in Year 1/2. I am sure that her skills and experience will benefit our pupils greatly.

Dear Parent/ Carer,
Many children and young people will be receiving the latest gadgets such as tablets, smart phones and games consoles this Christmas.
The internet and all it can offer, is a wonderful tool for keeping in touch with friends and family, however parents and carers need to be aware that it is possible for people who are not known to your children and young people, to communicate with them via the internet.
Some parents, carers or relatives might not realise that even games consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation are connected to the internet and can be used for communicating as well as playing games.
While using these gadgets is second nature for many children and young people, they can seem quite daunting for parents or carers who may not be as technologically savvy.
Simple, step-by-step instructions have been produced on how to set the privacy settings on the most popular applications and games consoles used by children and young people.
If you have bought a child or young person a new gadget eg; mobile, games console or ipad for Christmas, you can follow these instructions and enable these settings before you give your gift and therefore help protect your child or young person online.
To access the instructions for the most popular applications and consoles go to the Leeds Safeguarding Children Board website: www.leedslscb.org.uk and click on the Parents/Carers section.
Kind regards

Jane Held
