Welcome back after half term and I hope you all had a lovely time. Apologies for the shortness of the newsletter but hopefully, we will be on our way back from London after our residential and that we have all had a brilliant time….

Our year 4 pupils had a fabulous time at Robinwood before half term! They really did have a go at everything and did themselves and RH proud. Many thanks to them all but also to Mrs. Brook for organising the residential and to the other staff who gave their time to ensure that they could all go and have the best time possible.

Are you going abroad over the Easter break? If so, chances are you'll return home with a handful of foreign currency that will end up floating around your home.  Well the PTA can use them! We are starting a collection of currency from any corner of the globe, including notes. We can accept old UK, Irish and pre euro coins, even damaged ones.
This collection will help us to raise much needed funds for the new playground. Coins/notes can be left in the grey box outside the school office. Any donations of currency will be greatly received, no matter how small!

Dear Parent/ Carer,

What a wonderful and very busy half term we have had!

Well done to our year 3/4 pupils for a fantastic assembly this afternoon. Thank you to all those parents who attended and weren’t they just superb?

Our Foundation Stage welcomed the farm animals into school on Wednesday and had wonderful day learning about them! It was also our Valentine’s disco and we welcomed Nursery pupils from 3.15-3.45, KS1 pupils from 4pm-5pm and KS2 from 5.15pm until 6.30pm. Thank you for your contributions of buns/cakes etc… thank you also to our fabulous PTA for all their help and support in organising this… We managed to raise around £500. Thank you very much!

After February half-term we will be introducing our new school meals. Pupils and parents enjoyed sampling the new menu and we look forward to many more pupils choosing to have a school meal. Many thanks go to our chef Mrs. Nash for making delicious appetisers for everyone at the Valentine’s disco! This week was also e-safety awareness week and pupils have been learning about keeping themselves safe.

We are also looking to improve our playground provision and environment for children at break times and lunchtimes. Whist this is a long term project, the PTA have given us some funding to purchase some playground equipment. This will be introduced and launched in Assembly on the first Monday back after half term…. More news on this after the holidays.

We would like to say a huge congratulations to Miss Marriott who is getting married on Sunday and wish her and her new husband all the best for the future.

Parking- Could we please ask that parents do not park on the zig-zags outside school or use the disabled bay if you do not have a disabled badge. Thank you.

If parents wish to speak with a teacher could they please go to the school office to make an appointment, rather than trying to speak to the member of staff when the children are coming into school in the morning.

Please remember that Upper KS2 Assembly is on Friday 26th February at 2.30pm.
Have a very lovely half term and we will look forward to seeing you all on Monday 22nd February.

Dear Parent/ Carer,

We have had another very busy week… our year 6 pupils have had their assessment week and have all tried their very best in these new assessments. We are very proud of them.

Unfortunately the farm animals were unable to visit us this week due to the very high winds. This has been rearranged for a future date when we hope the weather has improved.

After feedback from our pupils regarding school luncheswe have decided that from Monday next week (1st February) we will be returning to serving dinners from the hatch. In addition to this, we are also planning to extend the choice at lunchtimes and we will let you know more about this next week. Could we also remind parents that we require 2 weeks’ notice if your child wishes to change their meal arrangements as food has to be ordered two weeks in advance.

Please remember that KS1 Assembly is next Friday afternoon (5th February) and lower KS2 is on 12th February. These start at 2.30pm and we look forward to seeing you then!

Please try and stay safe in this awful weather!

Dear Parent/ Carer,
We have had another very busy and productive week which began on Monday morning when we welcomed Reverend Mandy in to lead our whole school Assembly. It was lovely to meet her and the children thoroughly enjoyed her assembly on ‘Being Thankful’.

Our school choir went to Sheffield Arena on Tuesday to take part in the ‘Young Voices’ concert. They had a wonderful time joining other school choirs in singing to a huge crowd full of family and friends and with a few surprise guests! The children and staff arrived back at school at 10.30pm and even though there were a few yawns around school on Wednesday morning everyone was buzzing with excitement. Many thanks to all parents and carers who attended and special thanks to Miss Thackray, Miss Johnson and Miss Morris for making the visit possible.

We are implementing many new initiatives at Robin Hood this year and many of our teachers have been out on training this week and returning with great and innovative ideas which will be used in classes across school.
I have had many more children visit me to collect their Head Teacher award sticker and am getting to know more names and faces. I have had the pleasure of working in year 1, phase 3/4 and phase 5/6 this week.

Thank you again for your continued support and have a lovely weekend,

PTA Disco Plea

The PTA are hoping to hold a “Valentines” disco on 10 February 2016 (date tbc) – but we need some help!! Unfortunately, both Steph & I have large work commitments at the moment and cannot commit the amount time needed for every job.

Below is a list of the things that we need someone to take charge of. We do have templates for previous events that can be emailed out. It would be fabulous if you could offer to take on even one job from the list. If we are in the position of getting multiple volunteers, we may ask if you are willing to do something else.

1. Invites to be sent into school & distributed. (Stephanie)
2. Posters need designing and sent to school to be put up on doors etc.
3. Reply to invites and ticket money collected from the school office daily. The attendee’s names, class and adults contact details then need to be noted down on a spread sheet.
4. Tickets need to be printed, cut, sorted into classes and sent back to school so they can hand them out to the children.
5. A decision needs to be made on what and how much food and drink is needed.
6. Trips to “Bookers”, “Morrisons” for the food and drinks
7. Risk assessment to be completed & sent into school (Kay)
8. Organise a rota for the three discos after we have managed to get enough volunteers
9. 2/3 people to set up from 2:30pm on the day of the disco
10. 2/3 people to tidy away after the disco (usually finished by 7pm)

We need about 8 volunteers per disco on the evening itself.

The approx. times will be Nursery/Rec 3.15-3.45; KS1 4.00-5.00; KS2 5.15-6.30.

We appreciate that not everyone is in a position to help, we all have busy lives with jobs and children but should anyone be able to take on one of the jobs listed above please contact the PTA at rhppta@gmail.com, or leave a message on our Facebook page before Friday 22nd January (this will give two weeks to get sorted).

Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance

Dear Parent/ Carer,
We have had another very busy and productive week which began with Assembly on Monday morning. It was a real privilege to give out the first set of achievement awards for 2016 for each class. We were also delighted to welcome Mr Thomas and Mr and Mrs Crichton from the British Legion to present us with the Crichton Trophy for raising the most money through the poppy appeal in November. This is the tenth successive year that we have won the award and this year we managed to raise nearly five hundred pounds. A big thankyou to all of you who contributed to this very deserving cause.

Our year 2 children have had their assessment week and we are thrilled at the pupils’ attitude and resilience in doing these. They have all worked so very hard.

I can’t quite believe that it is the end of my second week at Robin Hood Primary… time really is flying. I have had many children visit me to collect their Head Teacher award sticker and am gradually getting to know names and faces.
